About

Hello! Welcome to Flaming Arrow Farm!
I'm Goat and I live with my wonderfully handy husband, Wolf, and our daughter, Little Owl. We have always dreamed of having land. It was the main reason we moved to CO from CA in 2011. We hoped to find some property within our price range (not going to happen in CA!) and start our mini-farm. We have finally succeeded in our decade+ long dream and bought 5 acres to call home. Our homesteading journey started 2 years ago with the purchase of 5 chicks and it's only gotten bigger from there.  We now have: 1 cow, 2 horses, 2 goats, 3 dogs, 2 cats, 1 rabbit, and a flock of chickens.

Our goal is to bring a sense of community and local sustainability to our friends and neighbors. We plan to sell all extra produce, milk shares, meat, eggs, and other products at a heavily discounted price in order to allow more people to experience good local foods. We are not trying to make a profit or make a living at homesteading but rather help lower operating costs while helping others who can't do this on their own. We are looking into being a local repository for other homesteaders so customers can have a central place to buy from. We will only deal with other hobbyists, not commercial operations. Staying with the goal of bringing more local products to more people. We hope to also have a classroom where classes on cheese-making, bee keeping, gardening, chicken keeping, dairy animals, etc can happen.

I hope you enjoy going along this journey with us, even if this isn't a witty blog. :)

  2. Lots of great info here and I enjoy you on BYC, too! I'm a Denver native and so pleased you can have such a setup there in the city...how cool is that? I'm a little curious about something in your "About", when you say "unschooled 11 year old", what do you mean?

    1. Thanks! Yes, I love being able to have chickens. Just wish I could have more of them and more animals! ;)
Unschooled explained - we homeschool and don't follow a set curriculum or belief that she needs to learn a specific thing at a specific time. We don't do text books or worksheets. We let life be our teacher. For instance we learn math while baking, shopping, budgeting, farming, etc. We follow her interests to decide what to learn about next (it's been Greek mythology for over a year now!).

    2. May she never encounter the Augean Stables, may she always be able to deal with her Sisyphusean (is that a word?) challenges, and may all her dogs be Argus!
Out to post Wolf Pee Packets on the property surrounding where I want the chickens to wander safely. Wish me luck!
